The most ambitious Battle Royale ever to be staged in the UK and what better City to host it than Edinburgh? A beautiful blend of old school tradition with modern day technology made for a highly entertaining event for the competitors, the in-house crowd and our global audience.

PROJECT DETAILS

This was one BIG Fortnite event and the first of it’s kind in the UK. 100 of the world’s best Fortnite players and influencers descended upon Edinburgh, Scotland to compete at the stunning McEwan Hall, a venue usually associated with graduation ceremonies!

Our aim was to build a show that paid homage to the classical beauty of the surroundings whilst also showcasing why Fortnite is one of the most popular games on the planet. Producing over 8.5 hours of live content and reaching a concurrent of around 50,000 viewers, Red Bull Contested went down a storm.

A big show needs big technical facilities to support, and we delivered just that. Two expanding arctic OB trucks, 110 cameras including a 3D wire camera plus 9 in-game observer cameras ensured we never missed a moment of action.

Hang Loose also developed groundbreaking Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software which in real time was extracting data from the game. This automatically switched the player’s face-cameras to coincide with who we were watching on broadcast. Our OCR software also triggering changes to LED content within the set.
